Many times we are faced with challenging times and seasons and, if not careful, we might begin to doubt the existence of God. Yet, we stand on the promise of 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 : “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” Though you are pressed, we thank God you are still standing.
In those challenging moments of life, it is possible to maintain a heart full of praise and worship. The Word of God provides us with examples of people who, despite facing immense difficulty, never lost their song. Today, we look at the life of Abraham—the father of faith.
Remember that worship goes beyond the songs we sing and the music we make; it is a lifestyle. It is amazing that as the years went by, Abraham maintained a right attitude toward God. He embarked on many assignments for the Lord while the central promise of a son remained unfulfilled. Yet, even in the season of barrenness, Abraham continued to build altars and offer sacrifices.
As Romans 4:20-21 says of him: “He did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” His unwavering worship in the "waiting room" of life qualified him to be called the friend of God.
Dear beloved, do not cease to praise and worship. It is during these challenging times that your love for God is tried and tested.
Remember, worship is loving God with everything you are—it is when ALL a man is responds, submits, and surrenders to ALL God is. This is our "reasonable service," as Romans 12:1 reminds us: "Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service [of worship]. "
Today, be encouraged. Psalm 34:19 declares, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” Against all odds, just like our father of faith Abraham, do not cease to exude a life of worship. God is watching you, and He is faithful.
